About BioTransformations

BioTransformations is a private limited company owned primarily by the developer of its technology, Professor Colin Self.

The Company was created in November 2002 and is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne at a laboratory in the University of Newcastle bioscience incubator which is managed by the Centre of Excellence for Life Science (“CELS”). CELS also provides administrative support to BioTransformations from its head office in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Company’s light activation (termed “cloaking”) technology originates from work performed at the University of Newcastle first published in 1994.

The Company has selected the cloaking of a Mab that targets cancer tumours by stimulating T-cell activity at the tumour site as its first proof of principle application in man and is currently seeking funding to perform this work.

The technology is expected to have many significant clinical applications besides the treatment of cancer.

BioTransformations is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Avemont Limited. BioTransformations will be demerged from Avemont as part of the investment process. In addition to Professor Self, there are two other shareholders in Avemont. Declan Cunningham and Gwyn Cole are experts in finance and intellectual property, respectively, and have assisted Professor Self in developing his Company and its technology.
